Soroti City and KC Budo Rekindle Cricket Bonds in a Spirited Social Showdown

Soroti City’s return to the field comes with a renewed sense of purpose an eagerness not only to play again but to reconnect with a familiar rival. Tomorrow, 15 November 2025, they meet KC Budo Cricket Club at the Entebbe Cricket Oval for a relaxed 25-over friendly set to begin at midday. There are no league points at stake, yet the fixture carries its own gentle weight: Soroti City has been absent from recent UG20 League action, while Budo has remained active and competitive.
For Soroti, this match is more about rediscovery than intensity. It is a chance to find rhythm, spend time in the middle, and share the field with opponents they know well. The tone will be social and unpressured though a spark of competitiveness is almost guaranteed.
The two sides share a history shaped by close, character-building encounters. In their previous 50-over second-division clash, Soroti recovered from early trouble thanks to Derrick Bakunzi’s lively 56 off 42 balls and Gideon Outeke’s composed 36, complemented by his tight spell of 6-0-24-2. Budo fought back through Allan Ssemakula’s four wickets, but Soroti’s 191 proved sufficient. Despite resistance from Jackson Asiku, Budo’s chase stalled at 154.
Speaking ahead of the Memorial Day fixture, Soroti Cricket Academy chairman and founder Felix Musana reflected on the deeper purpose behind the match. He explained that the idea emerged from an honest conversation with Budo captain Allan Ssemakula, acknowledging a growing challenge in Ugandan cricket: many senior players simply do not get enough playing time due to the competitiveness of league cricket and limited spots in the playing XI.
From that discussion came a shared vision to create regular opportunities, whether monthly or quarterly, for senior players from both sides to step back onto the field, reconnect with the sport they love, and enjoy cricket in its purest, least pressured form. These games, Musana noted, are not merely about competition but about friendship, networking, fitness, and remembering why they fell in love with cricket in the first place.
He added that many senior players will be dusting off their kits for tomorrow’s encounter, and he hopes this initiative inspires more such fixtures, particularly for those aged 35 and above.
While past meetings have often tilted Soroti’s way, tomorrow’s contest prioritizes camaraderie over rivalry a warm reunion between two sides bound by history, respect, and a shared passion for the game.
