Our representative schools continue to make a strong statement at the ongoing Girls Schools Cricket Week, with defending champions Olila High School, Light Secondary School, and Soroti Secondary School all delivering impressive performances in Gulu.
Light SS currently holds the tournament’s highest team total after posting 216/4 against Kasese Secondary School.
In that same match, Soroti Cricket Academy product Mercy Tracy Kongai produced the tournament’s standout innings so far, smashing 110 off 65 balls, the only century recorded in this year’s competition and note worthy even the three from the previous editions are from our academy.
Heading into Match Day Five, Olila High School’s Malisa Ariokot leads the tournament run charts with 142 runs from five innings at a strike rate of 137, including a top score of 96. Close behind her is teammate Josephine Icumar, who has accumulated 126 runs.
In the team standings, both Olila and Light SS remain unbeaten and firmly in contention for the Girls Schools Cricket Week title, while Soroti SS, despite two defeats, remain strong contenders for the Plate trophy after progressing to the placement stage.
Olila Continue Title Defence in Style
Defending champions Olila High School have once again shown their dominance throughout the tournament. They opened their campaign with a commanding 154-run victory over St Cornelius SS before dismantling Rwenzori High School by 171 runs. Further victories against St James SS (79 runs) and Masindi SS (78 runs) saw them finish top of their group and secure a place in the Super 8.
Olila carried that momentum into the Super 8, edging Mt St Henry’s by four wickets in their opening match.
Light SS Maintain Unbeaten Run
Light SS have equally impressed with a series of dominant performances. They began with a 95-run victory over Mt St Henry’s before thrashing Kasese SS by 185 runs. Wins against Gayaza High School (107 runs) and Soroti SS (49 runs) ensured they topped their group and advanced to the Super 8.
They continued their strong run by defeating Masindi SS by two wickets in their Super 8 opener.
Soroti SS Eye Plate Glory
Soroti SS have experienced a mixed but competitive campaign. They started brightly with a seven-wicket win over Kasese SS but narrowly lost to Mt St Henry’s by two wickets. The side bounced back strongly with a six-wicket victory against Gayaza before falling to Light SS in the SCA derby.
Despite finishing third in their group, Soroti made a positive start in the placement stage, edging Ndejje SS by one wicket to remain among the favourites for the Plate trophy.
Individual Performances Stand Out
Several players from the academy-affiliated schools have delivered standout individual displays throughout the tournament.
For Light SS, Joyce Mary scored 54 in the opening match against Mt St Henry’s, while Rita Alio struck 51 against Kasese SS in the same game where Mercy Kongai registered her unbeaten 110.
Olila’s batting unit has also been in outstanding form. Malisa Ariokot’s unbeaten 96 against St Cornelius SS set the tone early in the tournament, while Lucky Agwang (67) and Devine Nyamer Gabriella (52) both recorded half-centuries against Rwenzori High School. Josephine Icumar also added a composed 51 against St James SS.
