In the heart of Soroti, a new champion emerged.
Senior Quarters Cricket Club lifted the SCA Ladies 50-Over League title after edging Campswahili by just 11 runs in a thrilling final showdown at Madera Oval.
Batting first, Senior Quarters recovered from early setbacks thanks to a composed 52 from Iloku Esther, guiding her side to 98 for nine. Campswahili began their chase steadily, but wickets kept tumbling.
Naume Amongin’s fighting 34 offered hope, until her run-out turned the tide.
With every ball tightening the contest, the final wicket at 87 sparked jubilant celebrations proof that grit, not glamour, defines champions in Soroti’s cricketing heart.

Senior Quarters’ triumph capped a stellar campaign: five wins from six matches and a total of 10 points.
Their journey to dethrone defending champions Campswahili began with victories over Nakatunya and Pamba, followed by a narrow loss to Campswahili in round one.
The second round saw complete redemption beating all three sides again, including a decisive double over the champions.
At the City Oval, Proscovia Alako (52) and Josephine Icumar (58) powered Nakatunya to 182 all out, sealing a 121-run win that secured third place with four points, while Pamba finished bottom.
Speaking about the Ladies 50-Over League, Felix Musana the Chairman and Founder of Soroti Cricket Academy thanked Cricket Uganda for its continued support, particularly in providing logistics for the league.
He also expressed gratitude to SCA’s friends in London, who have consistently donated Oxford mathematical sets to the girls support that has helped them excel not only in cricket but also in academics.
He added that the league gives school-going girls valuable playing time, as opportunities to play competitive cricket during the school term can be limited.
The matches help them build confidence, composure at the crease, and greater game awareness.
The tournament has also created room for new leaders to emerge, with young captains such as Sara Tino (Campswahili), Malisa Ariokot (Senior Quarters), Lucky Agwang (Pamba), and Josephine Icumar (Nakatunya) stepping up to lead their teams.
Additionally, Victoria Pearls players have offered mentorship to the younger girls, inspiring them to strive for excellence.
The league has also benefited the local community providing markets for food and refreshments during match days and given local boys the opportunity to serve as umpires, further promoting cricket development in the region.
